Context Strategy
We meet with the board and management team to define the credit union’s operating context, and to establish the tolerances for credit union health.
Context is the framework within which management decisions and actions must fit. Context is also the basis for evaluating the results of management decisions and actions. Health is defined by an institution’s underlying financial strength relative to commonly accepted financial benchmarks, and to its own set of financial performance expectations. Health is an important subset of operating context.
We help credit union leadership teams discuss and find consensus on the broad context governing operations, and the specific expectations regarding credit union health – whether a range, benchmark or goal.
As a result of our Strategic Context Planning process…
- The board of directors will possess a clear set of expectations regarding credit union context (operations) and financial performance, expectations to which they can hold the management team accountable;
- The management team will have a clear set of contextual and financial expectations that can be used to develop and validate execution and budgeting strategies.

Notes:
In terms of credit union health, we make heavy use of Glatt Consulting, LLC’s own proprietary HealthScore scoring system, and encourage our Strategic Context Planning clients to establish health expectations in line with HealthScore best practices. You can learn more about our system here.
While our Context Strategy process can be contracted on a stand-alone basis, credit unions find that context planning works best if combined with our Execution Planning and Budgeting and HealthScore Status and Benchmark Reporting processes.
